Svalbard REU

Permanent URI for this community

The Svalbard REU (Research Experience for Undergraduates) Project was established to provide undergraduate student research opportunities in Arctic climate change research. Student research projects focuses on understanding how high latitude glaciers, melt-water streams, and sedimentation in lakes and fjords respond to changing climate. Six to ten undergraduate students participated each year beginning in the summer of 2004. Students formulate their own research questions, develop their projects, and conduct field research during a five-week program in Svalbard, Norway, and complete their projects at their home institution during the following academic year as a senior thesis. This data archive provides public access to data and observations, pictures including time-lapse movies of field sites, and completed student theses.
